She can hula...

...Up to her hand...

...around the neck...

...and back down again...

But not to be out done, this one can hula also...

...she can go down to her knees, and back up, and keep hulaing...

...and she can dance and hula...

Middle School? How can that be?!

Thursday, June 19, 2014
We went to Sydney's 5th grade promotion last week, so I guess it's true...she's off to Middle School!  I'm still in denial, but the ceremony was nice.  We'll just ignore the reality until September :)

Here's half the 5th grade class, singing My Country 'tis of Tee...can you find Syd?  She's next to the giant boy, makes her look little, which I like.

She got to stand up and get recognized for her participation in the Character Ed project...

And here she is ready to get her certificate...

Here she is shaking her teachers' hand.  She was supposed to turn and smile at us...she didn't...

I don't think we can see Syd in this pic, but here they are celebrating being promoted!

The graduate :)

Syd and her bestie...

Another bestie...and twinsie :)

And then just a few pics of my gorgeous big girl.  She's growing WAY too fast :(

She's a brownie!

It's fun having two kids, and seeing how differently they react to 'big' life events.  Brooke has seen Sydney bridge three times in Girl Scouts - to Brownies, Juniors, and most recently Cadette.  Since Syd got to go to San Francisco for her latest bridging event, Brooke figured bridging is a pretty huge deal.  She was SO excited about going across the bridge, and becoming a brownie.  When we discovered that we'd be in Irvine for a softball tournament during bridging we debated what to do.  We decided we couldn't miss it, and so we did a marathon morning, driving from Irvine to San Diego, back to Irvine.  At the end, when Brooke exclaimed 'I didn't realize bridging would be SO much fun!" it made it all worth it :)

Here are the cute Daisies, before their bridging journey.  They started with just a daisy to hold, and collected flowers as they crossed the bridge.

The leader told them to walk slowly...here is Kayla showing how well that went :)

A few more friends dashing across the bridge...

Brooke moved quickly also, but I made her stop for a pic:

Here she is, still a Daisy, but after having collected a full bouquet:

With her buddy, Syra:

Here they are as Brownies, congrats girls!!

The reader

So I have one math-a-holic, my other is a read-a-holic!

This is the view of her we get on most days...

She reads really big books...

And then I have to drag her away, because much to her disappointment, she has to do math too!

Math tile mania!

Tuesday, June 3, 2014
In first grade they have an activity called 'math tiles'.  There are 20 sheets in a packet that they work through one by one until they mark off every sheet on their list, then they move onto another packet.  In Brooke's class this year there is a group of competitive little math buggers, and they are going nuts!  The class next to us is on packet 4 at the highest...Brooke is on packet 34!  Our teacher says this is the highest she's ever had a class go.  Some of the packets are SO hard, it takes some of Mommy's thinking power to get us through. They are so tricky!  Yesterday she got lucky and brought home a not-so-hard packet (number 34), and she whizzed through the entire thing in less than an hour.  Bring on packet 35!
