Yesterday was the big derby car weigh-in! Jason and Sydney showed up, ready with their drill just in case they had to shave a couple of ounces off of the car. First, the car had to fit in a small little box...they dropped Silverlicious in, and she fit perfectly! Next, she had to be able to clear a certain height on a track...rolled her across, and she was again perfect. The final test...the weight. The cars can't weigh any more than 5 ounces. Jason spent a lot of time measuring everything out so that the weight would be perfect, but since our scale only went to the tenths place, he was worried there was a chance she'd weigh 5.1 ounces without him realizing and not qualify. If that were the case his plan was to just drill a hole in the bottom real quick to remove a tiny bit of weight. So, they put her on the scale...drumroll please....5 ounces on the dot!! Whew! Silverlicious is ready to go!
The race is Friday evening. We're not quite sure what to expect, but I'm sure it will be a blast. We had to leave Silverlicious with the race team. Brooke wasn't quite sure about that, she asked a lot of questions about her dear car friend, and where she was going to be sleeping. Silverlicious will be spending the next 5 nights in this box below...taped up and secure, so that no one changes anything about her. We'll all be happy to see her on Friday.

This is awesome that Girl Scouts do this now. When I was a kid we didn't do it but the Boy Scouts did... I was always secretly jealous of my brother. He spent many evenings out in the garage with my dad getting the car ready. Fun stuff! -Karin
